My Journey
After the birth of my first daughter, I realized I didn’t want to continue on the path I was on. I never thought I’d like to be a stay-at-home mom. But if there’s one thing about motherhood I know for sure, it’s that you can’t predict how you’ll react or what you’ll want until you’re in the thick of it.
The day I had to leave her at daycare for the first time was one of the hardest days of my life. And I’ve had some real hard life sh*t happen, including a cancer diagnosis. So when I say it was one of the hardest days, I mean it. I didn’t have a way out and was desperate to find a way to make enough money to pay bills so I could be home with her.
As she got older and settled into a routine, it was hard to make an 8-5 work schedule work with her routine when she needed to be in bed by 6. The typical workday is NOT made for the modern workforce or family, and I was OVER IT. If you’re here, I’m guessing you are over it, too.
The pain and anguish of leaving my baby at daycare weren’t as raw as it was, and my postpartum brain was starting to feel a little more normal. As the fog cleared, I became clearer about what I wanted.
So I took a leap. I bet on myself. And I started doing freelance copywriting and digital marketing. When my second daughter was born, I already had the systems that allowed me to scale my income up or down. I took on more work when I was ready. And being in control of what I do and how I raise my family gives me immense satisfaction.
From that desire to create a life where I could do work that I loved, control my schedule, and be able to take my kids to school and be at home when they were Make Money Mama was born.
