After my first child’s birth, I realized I wanted a different kind of life. I wanted to spend more time with my baby, navigate first-time motherhood on my terms, and break away from the constraints of full-time work and parenthood. Society isn’t set up to make it easy for parents, and I was OVER IT. I decided to walk away from my 9-5 and leap into motherhood and freelancing. With the skills I’d acquired over the years from my professional career, I knew I could make it work. But soloprenuring is lonely, and I needed some camaraderie and a guide to help me navigate being self-employed. Here’s my journey and my review of the Write Your Way To Freedom course that improved my trajectory!
How to make money from home
This is a highly searched-for term on Google. I know I search for ways to make money from home A LOT. The world of making money online can seem confusing and overwhelming, and many sketchy scammy things are out there. I was a tired mom with a brain already at max capacity, and I didn’t have time for BS. So when I came across the Write Your Way To Freedom copywriting course by Sarah Turner, I was intrigued but skeptical. If you’re like me, you may have seen some social media ads, taken the free copywriting masterclass (super value-packed, btw), and subscribed to her email list. But still not sure if the Write Your Way To Freedom Course is worth it?
An honest review of Sarah Turner’s Write Your Way To Freedom Course
After I’d completed the free copywriting masterclass and read some of her emails, I was hooked. I knew this course was exactly what I needed and wanted, so I patiently waited for enrollment to open again to click add to cart. And I can honestly say that this course is one of the best investments I’ve made. It helped me generate consistent income on my terms, develop high-paying skills, and create income in a way that works for me and my life stage.
When I started the course about a year and a half after I walked away from my 9-5 job and jumped straight into being a SAHM, I didn’t have a clear road map for what I wanted to do. I had a vague idea of what I wanted, so I kept stumbling in that general direction and decided to figure it out as I went along when it came to making money.
With some marketing and writing skills, I knew I wanted to create something that would allow me to work whenever and wherever I wanted and scale up or down depending on what was going on with my family (like having another baby). There are many ways to make money online, and the best way (IMO) is to be a freelance copywriter.
Since then, I’ve built a business that I love. It’s carried me through the pandemic (which turned out to be a GREAT year of business for me), a second baby, navigating no childcare, and so much more. I can be flexible when I need to be and still make money. I’ve worked with some big-name companies and amazing clients that I love, and I have a sense of freedom, confidence, and clarity that the old me wouldn’t believe.
Can Write Your Way To Freedom Work For Anyone?
The cool thing about the Write Your Way To Freedom course is that it’s for beginners entirely new to the world of copywriting and marketing or those with more experience. Whatever level you’re at, you can find value in it.
I was soloprenuering it for a while, and let me tell you, it was lonely. But it doesn’t have to be! One of the great parts of Write Your Way To Freedom is the private online community. This group has been the most supportive, encouraging, and empowering community.
In my search for guidance and community, I sifted through a lot of crap, to put it plainly. Something about the Write Your Way To Freedom course just felt right. It aligned with who I was and where I wanted to go, and Sarah was a big expander for me. Before I even bought the course (and maybe what encouraged me to do so), I felt informed and empowered by her videos, emails, and other communications.
Instead of feeling even more confused and in the dark, it was like a gentle light illuminating the path ahead.
So I trusted my gut, bet on myself, and haven’t looked back.
Best. Decision. Ever.

Write Your Way To Freedom will teach you everything you need to know about being a copywriter and self-employed
Before we get into the details about copywriting, I want to share that this course does so much more than teach copywriting. In the course, Sarah teaches you the specific skills and tools you’ll need to be a business owner. One of the things I was unclear about when I decided to be self-employed was all of the stuff that came with it, like taxes, how to set up my business, pricing services, how to think like a business owner, and more. The Write Your Way To Freedom course outlines all of those things for you.
What is copywriting?
Copywriting is one of the most critical elements of all forms of marketing and advertising. A copywriter creates written messaging for a business, brand, or organization. Copywriters use words to try to elicit an action. A copywriter writes clear, concise, and compelling copy for ads and marketing materials like website content, blogs, emails, social media ads, case studies, and much more. Skilled copywriters use search engine optimization (SEO) techniques to boost their content and ensure search engines like Google find it and rank it high in search results.
What skills are needed to be a copywriter?
You’ll learn everything you need to know to learn how to be a copywriter, from actually writing, to SEO strategies, to adding digital marketing to your skillset, through the Write Your Way To Freedom course. Sarah Turner does a fantastic job of ensuring you’re well-equipped to be a skilled copywriter. Here are some skills you’ll need to be a copywriter and how Sarah covers them in the course.
- Writing – Yes, big one, duh. Sarah teaches the essential copywriting techniques you need to have and provides a ton of resources for places to start sharpening your skills.
- Business owner mindset – This is a big one if you’re accustomed to working for someone else. You’ll need key mindset shifts to stay on the entrepreneurial path. Sarah walks you through what you need to know and how you should think about becoming a business owner to set you up for success.
- Research – Google will be your bestie. Depending on your niche (what you want to write about), you’ll need to get good and dig around for information online. Stay hungry to learn about your niche and how to keep adding to your skillset as a copywriter and business owner.
- Time management – This is another one that ties in with mindset. If you’re suddenly in charge of your work schedule, it can feel weird for a while. You’ll need to get good at time management, find a workflow that works for you, and stay disciplined.
What do I need to know to be a successful copywriter?
Even though I had a marketing and writing background, there were some gaps in my knowledge. And the big thing I lacked was a business framework and community to bounce things off of. I got my questions answered and found a guide on my journey to becoming a freelance copywriter. The Write Your Way To Freedom course will teach you everything you need to know to be a successful copywriter.
- How to develop good copywriting skills
- How copywriting is different than journalism or academic writing
- How to cultivate a business owner mindset
- How to position yourself as the excerpt
- How to get a business website

In addition to the value-packed course itself, you get access to weekly Q&A sessions where Sarah answers questions from the community live, and you have access to the recordings. There are also monthly work sessions that cover various topics, from big-picture issues like how to land dream clients, design your dream lifestyle, and how to build a business, not a job, to in-depth topics like landing pages, content pillars, and SEO tactics.
If you can’t make it live, they’re always recorded and available for you to watch as many times as you want. THIS IS HUGE VALUE. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve referenced these.

Can you make money as a freelance copywriter?
Yes, you can. Agency copywriters usually start around $47K and go up to around $88K. So even if you’re not a freelancer, you can make money as a copywriter. The cool thing about working for yourself is unlimited income potential. If you’re willing to put in the time, energy, and effort to be a top-earning freelance copywriter, then you can absolutely make six figures a year. This course provides the roadmap you need to do that.
Even in my early days as a freelance copywriter, I made enough money to cover my financial responsibilities and have some extra. Since I wasn’t paying for full-time daycare anymore (which was my entire paycheck before!) I didn’t need to make as much. At that stage, I wanted time, freedom, and a way to cover the bills. It was a relief that I could do something I loved and make money while still getting to do all of the fun stuff with my young daughter I wanted to do.
Being a freelance copywriter helped our family flex and bend during the immense pressure of the pandemic. I’ve been able to scale back on work when needed (having a baby) and ramp up when I’m ready.
And in 2023, I have big goals for building my business. I’m revamping my offers and streamlining my processes to work more efficiently and create higher-ticket offers, passive income, and triple my income in 2023.
All of this is doable because of the framework, guidance, support, and resources available to me within the Write Your Way To Freedom course and community.
Time and financial freedom goals
Running my own copywriting business gives me the time freedom I always wanted. So what does that actually look like?
- I get to take my kids to school and pick them up.
- I get to be home after school to take them to sports, activities, or do fun stuff.
- I get to work wherever I want. All I need is my laptop and WiFi.
- I can be available if my family needs me and not worry about chipping away at vacation time.
- I can take as much time off as I want.
The cool thing is, even if you don’t want this to replace your income, it can be a great side hustle to give your family a financial buffer, help save for a down payment on a house, that Disney trip, or whatever else. With the skills you’ll learn as an entrepreneur and copywriter, you can build the business YOU want and make the kind of money you want. That’s the best part of being your own boss – you get to choose.
Is the Write Your Way to Freedom copywriting course worth it?
It was DEFINATLEY WORTH IT, in my opinion. I can’t overstate how much value Sarah adds to the course, how supported I feel, and how comforting it is to have a place to get answers to any question I may have about freelance copywriting.
I absolutely love making money in this way and the time and financial freedom it’s allowed me, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
But you’re the only one who can decide if it’s the right move for you. While I started with some marketing and copywriting background, most students in the course don’t. Many come from teaching or nursing backgrounds. If you think copywriting could be a good fit for you, you won’t find a better course or community than this one.
